der(d)'ek-sheyker ha'sayr mee'mey'nee, ve'to'ra'te'ha ho'naynee ho = o sound in honnaynee (notice the dagesh in the “nun”, which doubles it): vowel kamayts katoof Ges. § 8c Kamayts katoof is between two consonants: a closed syllable, not an open syllable. Notice kamayts gadol in “ha'sayr”, an open syllable—consonant followed by a vowel only. Be able to distinguish the difference between the the two similar vowels: written using the same symbol, but having different sounds when enunciated.
