Divorce: Purity And One-Cognizance Factor
Adam and Eve had a one-cognizance factor relationship. They are the example of purity that Jesus Christ himself referred to as a clean unity that should not be broken, “put asunder” (Mark 10:9, KJV). The Apostle Paul agreeably mentions the commandment of the Lord in 1 Cor. 7:10, which reinforces the concept of not breaking apart the unity of marriage.
Nevertheless, sometimes a partner to a Christian in marriage will not follow the Lord, and divorce occurs. This obligates the divorced Christian to remain single (I Cor. 7:11). Divorcing is merely separating; it does not defile anyone in itself. So, that is why if a partner remains clean even after having divorced it would not be unclean for one spouse to go back with the other and re-unite. However, if a woman became defiled during separation (or divorce), she could no longer re-unite with her former husband. It would be an abomination. (Dt. 24:4) A woman that has two males with a cognizance of sexual immorality with her cannot marry either nor anyone else without being defiled: Therefore, a woman of two defilement occasions with both men living must also remain single in order to prevent an unclean marriage.
Home-breaking (immorally putting asunder and making unclean) can occur willfully or through force (rape). It may occur through adultery or homosexuality. A woman that commits fornication and does not biblically marry does not establish a clean home or marriage in the first place. Her divorce or annulment would be justified. Beware of Satan, who goes about as a roaring lion, seeking whom he can destroy. Don't let him destroy your purity and opportunity for marriage, and don't let him destroy your purity after marriage. We live in a day of jellyfish and spineless pastors like Dana Coverstone who are afraid to tell their congregation that they cannot marry under defiled or obligated circumstances. Power abuse occurs actively and passively. Let God be the one that joins you to the mate, not erring ministers as such, and especially those that verbosely twist the Scriptures and good tradition of purity through circumvention like John MacArthur.
