Verses Containing The Word “Resurrection” From The KJV

In the resurrection men and women will not have gender attraction so as to marry as they do upon earth, but will be as the angels of God in heaven (Mt. 22:30). See Mark 12:18-27, and Luke 20:27-40 for synoptic views.

Matthew 22:23     The same day came to him the Sadducees, which say that there is no resurrection, and asked him, 24     Saying, Master, Moses said, If a man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother. 25     Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no issue, left his wife unto his brother: 26     Likewise the second also, and the third, unto the seventh. 27     And last of all the woman died also. 28     Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her. 29     Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God. 30     For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven. 31     But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying, 32     I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living. 33     And when the multitude heard this, they were astonished at his doctrine.

The Apostle Paul speaks of a change of our bodies in the twinkling of an eye (1 Corinthians 15:52).

1 Corinthians 15:12     Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13     But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen: 14     And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain. 15     Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not. 16     For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised: 17     And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins. 18     Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished. 19     If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. 20     But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. 21     For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. 22     For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. 23     But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming. 24     Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. 25     For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. 26     The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. 27     For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him. 28     And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all. 29     Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead? 30     And why stand we in jeopardy every hour? 31     I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily. 32     If after the manner of men I have fought with beasts at Ephesus, what advantageth it me, if the dead rise not? let us eat and drink; for to morrow we die. 33     Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners. 34     Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.

35     But some man will say, How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come? 36     Thou fool, that which thou sowest is not quickened, except it die: 37     And that which thou sowest, thou sowest not that body that shall be, but bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of some other grain: 38     But God giveth it a body as it hath pleased him, and to every seed his own body. 39     All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds. 40     There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another. 41     There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory. 42     So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption:

Resurrection of the just (Luke 14:14): God will remember good works to the poor and hurting.

Luke 14:12     Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee. 13     But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind: 14     And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.

Judgment and destiny of the good and evil (John 5:29)

John 5:26     For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself; 27     And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man. 28     Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, 29     And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

Relative chronological time of resurrection: Last day (John 11:24)

John 11:23     Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again. 24     Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.

Jesus is the resurrection (John 11:25).

John 11:25     Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: 26     And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this? 27     She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.

Witness of the resurrection of Jesus the Christ was a requirement for ordination (Acts 1:22).

Acts 1:22     Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.

Revealed prophetic witness of King David concerning the resurrection of Christ (Acts 2:31):

Acts 2:29     Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day. 30     Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne; 31     He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. 32     This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses. 33     Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear. 34     For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, 35     Until I make thy foes thy footstool. 36     Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

Antagonism against preaching the resurrection through Jesus (Acts 4:2):

Acts 4:2     Being grieved that they taught the people, and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead.

Witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus by the apostles (Acts 4:33):

Acts 4:31     And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness. 32     And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common. 33     And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all. 34     Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold, 35     And laid them down at the apostles’ feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.

The resurrection was preached by the Apostle Paul (Acts 17:18).

Acts 17:18     Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans, and of the Stoicks, encountered him. And some said, What will this babbler say? other some, He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached unto them Jesus, and the resurrection.

Not all believed in the resurrection; there were mockers (Acts 17:32):

Acts 17:29     Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device. 30     And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: 31     Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead. 32     And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, We will hear thee again of this matter. 33     So Paul departed from among them. 34     Howbeit certain men clave unto him, and believed: among the which was Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.

Disagreement between the Pharisees and the Sadducees concerning the hope of the resurrection (Acts 23:6-8):

Acts 23:6     But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees, and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, Men and brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee: of the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question. 7     And when he had so said, there arose a dissension between the Pharisees and the Sadducees: and the multitude was divided. 8     For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, neither angel, nor spirit: but the Pharisees confess both.

Resurrection for the just and unjust (Acts 24:15):

Acts 24:15     And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.

Called in question for touching the resurrection (Acts 24:21):

Acts 24:21     Except it be for this one voice, that I cried standing among them, Touching the resurrection of the dead I am called in question by you this day.

Miraculous power of God by the resurrection from the dead (Romans 1:4):

Romans 1:4     And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:

Christians will be of the resurrection (Romans 6:5):

Romans 6:1     What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? 2     God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? 3      Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? 4     Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 5     For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: 6     Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. 7     For he that is dead is freed from sin. 8     Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: 9     Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. 10     For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. 11     Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. 12     Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.

Power of his resurrection (Philippians 3:10):

Philippians 3:10     That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

Attainment of the resurrection (Philippians 3:11):

Philippians 3:11     If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.

The resurrection had not passed during the time of the ministry of the Apostle Paul (2 Timothy 2:18):

2 Timothy 2:17     And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus; 18     Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some. 19     Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

Resurrection as a principle of the doctrine of Christ (Hebrews 6:2):

Hebrews 6:1     Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, 2     Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

Different degrees of reward (Hebrews 11:35):

Hebrews 11:35     Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:

Lively hope (1 Peter 1:3):

1 Peter 1:3     Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

Figure of salvation ( 1 Peter 3:21):

1 Peter 3:20     Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. 21     The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

First resurrection (Revelation 20:5, 6):

Revelation 20:1     And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. 2     And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, 3     And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season. 4     And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. 5     But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. 6     Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
