BIBLICAL MARITAL CONCEPTS: NO ALIMONY TO DIVORCEES
RACIAL AND CULTURAL HOMOGENEITY
Alimony is not a biblical concept; however, Abraham did give Hagar bread and a bottle of water. (Gn. 21:14) A written divorce notice rather than mere separation among homogeneous peoples is a biblical concept although slaves had less rights. A man under the First Law (Ex. 21: 9-11) was obligated to give sex, food and clothing to a bought wife even if he took another wife, polygamy was legal. If he failed to give her these due things, she could go free without paying money.
