Baptism, repentance and forgiveness Sammy said in his earlier interview with Megyn that he wasn't going to “ask for forgiveness” for the things he has done from the architect of the universe, so to speak. (“Mafia Sunday, with Michael Franzese and Sammy 'The Bull' Gravano - Megyn Kelly's 'Double Feature'" 02:55:00-54) From what I understand, the interview was first uploaded over four years ago: July 7, 2022: see Episode 32, “The Mafia Code, Turning on the Mob, and Life After Prison, with 'Sammy the Bull' Gravano”, uploaded by Megyn Kelly. He admits in his own way that it took a great being to make such artwork as the stars and heavens, and the animal life on earth. As God made man, and all human creatures are of a fallen nature since Eve and Adam's sin in the garden, therefore, they are in need of repentance and sacrifice for God to accept them. Evil spirits and lusts of the flesh lead men into sin and temptation. However, Sammy thought God made him a lion, a vicious animal. He seemed to think he wasn't responsible for his animal-like events and sins. Nevertheless, he was said to have participated in 19 murders among many other horrible things. Did he think these things were done in an “honorable way”! (02:55:49-56) If he didn't think that is something a person should ask forgiveness for, or that he was exempt from guilt, he may not have believed and understood the Scriptures. The Lord commanded death as vengeance upon a murderer, “Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.” (KJV. Ge. 9.6) Others have received the death penalty in the US for Sammy's crimes. A later video was made of the baptism of Sammy on April 18, 2025. Evidently, he changed. For Sammy's sake, I hope it was sincere. I think it was. To merely perform a ceremony of baptism is a waste of time if it is not done in faith. Faith is believing that God will forgive those who are penitent and ask for forgiveness. Performing a coherent baptism is acceptance of God washing sins away. The decision to go under water is a symbolic, physical and open Christian confession to God and mankind of washing sins away: “And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.” (KJV, Acts 22.16) If Sammy didn't think his sins are liable so as to ask forgiveness, why did he think baptism will help him! He performed the ceremony, as Christians are expected to do. Christianity vs faction The Mafia omerta code reveals its traits of a beginning secret society, and progressed to a strange religion that portrays the burning of images of saints. Its former part may be related to the distrust of Bourbon rule of Sicily in the 18th and 19th centuries. As to the latter part, saints will not be burned in the afterlife, they will be with the Lord in heaven, a place of blessed eternity. (John 14:2-3) However, the Mafia ceremonial doctrine and code puts itself above any other religion or authority, including Christianity. By being baptized, he defied that former oath. Military science and theology: faction Sammy's soldier concept was much different than that of OT. and NT, and its selfish goal is much different than the physical violence war code of Moses and the non-violent code of intellectual and spiritual warfare of the NT. The righteous suffered giants and group evil before the flood. Modern society and governments have not been successful eliminating subversive elements, and unified members of adversity. Such may think of themselves as a “lion” (Gravano), or “man's man” (Franzese). There is no washing away of sins ceremony in the Mafia religion and code as in the Christian religion. However, many confessed Mafia informants, called “rats”, have formerly took part, belonged or served in the Roman Catholic church, some even as alter boys. Neither “religious” code organization, the Mafia nor Roman Catholicism, agrees with Scriptural Authority in practice. The schizophrenic type of religion of the RC church, even though it has some good things, may have lacked the conviction to reprove its members possessing more harmful, “religious” or code aspects. One way to God and biblical authority There is no other way to God than through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14.6) Sammy mentioned his former involvement in Indian religion, Wicca and other irreligious ideas. He said there were many pathways to God. However, having grown spiritually and while performing the baptism ceremony, he admitted Jesus is the answer to peace. Sammy is off to a good start. However, as all Christians, he and others will be tempted and led toward error. All must continue in faith and righteousness. We must check if our works our sanctified and make Godly changes when necessary. Sammy had not completely overcome misusing foul language, nevertheless, perhaps in the future he will get better at that too. Can Sammy have a Christian ministry Seemingly so. However it would have to overlooked by a legitimate local church official. The problem with that is there are not many qualified churches if any these days.
