Bible Study on Nakedness and Covering

A study of Biblical history teaches that nakedness is related to sin and shame. Covering of nakedness gives relief of this shame. Men and women generally learned to cover themselves well throughout the ages until the last century. Some women even covered part of their faces. I personally admire well-covered people but do not want to seem demanding in a real strict sense. I think a woman should be aware of her intentions to show or not to show bareness of skin. It only seems ethical to not follow perversity and blatant exposure.

We are now living in the apostasy and many people are promoting shame and nakedness, especially Hollywood and the wicked media. God forbid! It seems to me when women wear heals to expose their calf cuts, or wear skirts or gowns with slits in the bottom to show their bare leg, that is merely like teasing and exposing shame/nakedness. Some expose themselves as if they aren't conscious of any shame or sin. Men and women show their nakedness in bikini contests, gyms, beaches and who knows where else!

In the Beginning: Man and Woman Naked and Not Ashamed

Gn 2:21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; 22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. 23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. 24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. 25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed. (KJV)

Realization of Nakedness: Adam and Eve Became Fig-leave Apron Designers

Gn 3:7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. 8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. 9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? 10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.

Disobedience and Sin a Cause of Self-consciousness Impliedly

Gn 3:11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?

The Lord Became the First Leather-Fashion Designer

Gn 3:21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

Confessing our Sins and Forgiveness

I John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Confessing sins is a way to be forgiven our sins but it does not relieve us of our duty to continue clothing ourselves. Being forgiven of a sin (or many of them) is a great thing; however, there are still obligations to follow and restrictions not to break. A divorced adulterous person may be forgiven through confession but ought not remarry. An ex-drunkard may be forgiven but must continue to live sober. Even though we may ask forgiveness for a sin, and we be forgiven for it, the forgiveness does not take us back to the sinless state of Adam and Eve, and to the once, universal tranquility and lesser requirements that also covering was not necessary. Neither does it restore a defiled woman physically back to a virgin or chastity , nor an ex-drunkard to ground zero— a state before he ever abused a substance. Notwithstanding, it does restore us to cleanness and righteousness. Praise God!

All mankind is born in sin due to the fall of Adam and Eve. Adam and Eve clothed themselves, and God did a better job of physically clothing them. Mankind has a remaining obligation to clothe and cover well. All people who desire to be saved and forgiven for their sins must believe in the Lord Jesus Christ—he is the only way to God.
