Reasons We Are Worthy of Recovery from Negative Things Luke 5:31 And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick. 32 I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. The Lord Jesus Christ wants people to have faith and live righteously. If you have never had a personal relationship with Jesus, you can learn about him and ask him into your life through a little prayer. “Lord Jesus, I believe you died and paid for my sins when you were crucified, please save me and reveal your person and deity to me.” You may find some helpful information here. John 6:37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. If you already have a relationship with Jesus as your best friend (and knowing him as the savior and the Son of God) and a sin has been causing you to disappoint yourself and Jesus, he can help you get back on the right track. All you have to do is confess your fault to him and ask him to give you the strength to live as he would want you to. You are not helpless with Jesus; however, if you would like more help, God has already provided you with brothers and sisters to encourage and comfort you. Some churches may seem relatively too indifferent and weak to help you and if that is the case, find one that the members know how to overcome a similar problem as you may have. Sin stains a person's appearance when looked upon by righteous people. As to building up and healing, the more understanding and compassionate of God's children help the weaker. Miraculously, God intervened in my life. To help me be victorious over substance abuse, I was aided by Teen Challenge. I re-established my trust relationship with God while I was there. I realized I could depend on Him to deliver me from a life of deterioration and sin before I left. But don't procrastinate getting help (or encouragement to stop sinning) as I did: Half my life had been wasted unnecessarily. You can call a center near you or elsewhere today! Furthermore, if you have a problem with fornication and violence, you must realize we are in the apostasy, and churches are failing God as to teaching sexual cleanliness. Men and women can live in adultery, and sing or preach in today's erring churches and the dupes will give them praise. However, a drunk can't stagger and preach because the members would probably put a stop to it. I believe the sexual sin issue is worse than the substance abuse as far as recovery is concerned because people have been desensitized to its stigma. Regardless, if you don't take care of substance abuse, your neglect will only harm your endeavors of recovery in other areas of your life. However, if you seek God, he can deliver you from all sinful problems as you grow, and even if you have to become strong enough to reject those who won't change for the better. This is the power of God, not depending on others but God himself. 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Take a look at my personal example of confession. Remember, King David was a great and blessed man. However, he committed adultery and killed a man. A very terrible crime! Nevertheless, when he repented and asked God for forgiveness, God did forgive him. The purity standard of his reign was not violated through his error for any great length of time. A great kingdom came through his son afterward. God wants us restored back to happiness: Psalm 23:1 A Psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever. If you are still breathing, you are not powerless. And if you make God your strength, no sin (including alcohol or drug abuse) can overcome you. God can take away the desire, the craving and the addiction.
