I Corinthians 7 39 The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord.1 Evidently, Paul is going away from the subject of virgins. This comment is about widows: once virgins and still chaste until the death of the husband. He explains by Old Testament law that marriage ends with the death of a spouse. A Christian widow can marry a man, but not just any man. The widow must marry in the Lord. I assume this is certainly a prescription for only a Christian man, a widower or a male virgin, who is transparent, qualified and not carrying any immorality baggage. A background check would be advised. Next verse, previous verse, other verses 1The Holy Bible: King James Version. (1995).
