I Corinthians 7

8 I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I.1

Verses 8 and 9 are addressed to the unmarried and widows—single people. As many heretics today may condone immorality and falsely imply they get their message from the Scriptures, Paul cannot be speaking to men and women of fornication or adultery. See verses 1 and 2.

As to the “unmarried”, that would generally imply virgins because he specifically mentions widows afterward. He becomes more specific as to virgins in verse 25.

By the way, a chaste widow cannot remarry. Let me explain. Remarriage is another name for adultery. It is a technical term. A chaste widow is no longer married, so it would be impossible for her to remarry when she is not married in the first place. "So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man" (Rom. 7:3).

It seemingly can be deferred that Paul says that it is good for them (the female and male virgins, and widows) to remain single as himself. He talks about divorce of a virgin in verse 27. In this case, the male virgin is told not to seek another woman.
