Yes, the Hebrew slave was entitled to a choice. (Dt. 15: 16, 17)

Yes, owners of all races of slaves were expected to offer Freemanship to the non-white slave under certain conditions (manumission). This did occur for some who applied, but not all, and for various reasons. Although not a legal law at that time, and not all slaves were converts, Christian doctrine required freedom upon a Christian slave's request. Eventually legal emancipation occurred.

Disallowance of Slave Choice of Freedom Within Country
